Full Stop (।) पूर्ण विराम(Pūrṇa virāma)

  • Equivalent to the English period (.) and marks the end of a sentence.
  • Example: म घर जान्छु। (Ma ghara jānchu.)

Comma (,) अल्पविराम(Alpavirāma)

  • It is used similarly to the English comma to separate items in a list or clauses in a sentence.
  • Example: म आमा, बुवा, दाजु र बहिनीलाई भेट्न गएँ।(Ma aama,buwa,daaju ra bahinilai bhetna gaen.)

Question Mark (?)प्रश्न चिन्ह(Praśna cinha)

  • They are used at the end of a question.
  • Example: तिमीलाई कस्तो छ?(Timīlā’ī kastō cha?)

Exclamation Mark (!)विस्मयादिबोधक चिन्ह(Vismayādibōdhaka cinha)

  • Used to express strong emotion or a command.
  • Example: कति रमाइलो!(Kati ramailo!)

Quotation Marks (“ ”)उद्धरण चिन्ह(Ud’dharaṇa cinha)

  • Used to enclose direct speech or quotations.
  • Example: उसले भन्यो, “ऊ भोलि आउछ।”(Usle bhanyo, ‘ Uu bholi aaucha .'”)

Colon (:)कोलन(Kōlana)

  • Used to introduce a list or explanation.
  • Example: आवश्यक सामग्री: किताब, कलम, कपी।(Aawashyak saamagri:kitaab,kalama,kapi.”)

Semicolon (;)अर्ध: कोलन(Ardha: Kōlana)

  • Used to connect closely related independent clauses or separate items in a complex list.
  • Example: म काम गर्छु; उसले अध्ययन गर्छ।(Ma kaam garchu; usle adhyayan garchha.)

Dash (—)ड्यास(Ḍyāsa)

  • Used to indicate a pause or range.
  • Example: सन् २०००—२०२० सम्मको अवधिमा।(“San 2000-2020 sammako avadhima”)

Parentheses (()) कोष्ठकहरू(Kōṣṭhakaharū)

  • Used to enclose additional information or explanations.
  • Example: उसको साथी (जो सधैं हासिरहेको हुन्छ) पनि आयो।(Usko saathi (jo sadhai haasiraheko hunchha) pani aayo.)

Apostrophe (’)वर्णलोपको चिनो()

  • Used for possessive forms or contractions.
  • Example: रामको किताब।(Ramko kitaab.)

Ellipsis (…)अण्डाकार(Aṇḍākāra)

  • They are used to indicate an omission or trailing off in thought.
  • Example: म के भन्छु भने…(Ma ke bhanchu bhane…)

Slash (/)स्ल्याश(Slyāśa)

  • Used to indicate alternatives or fractions.
  • Example: हिउँद/वर्षा।(Hi’um̐da/varṣā.)
